2024年2月11日（日）、キャンプ富士諸職種共同訓練センターに所属する海兵隊員・海軍兵が山中湖アイスキャンドルフェスティバルの準備を支援しました。
容器からアイスキャンドルを取り出す作業では、誰が一番多く取り出せるか競争しつつ、地元の方々とも力を合わせて作業していました。
アイスキャンドルを設置する場面では、1つ15kg近くあるケースを両手に持ち、降り積もった雪の中を運搬する隊員も。約5,000個のキャンドルに火が灯ると会場は幻想的な雰囲気に包まれました。
ボランティア終了後、隊員たちは会場の屋台を楽しんだり、スカイランタンや花火の打ち上げを見たりとイベントを満喫したようです。
CATC Camp Fuji Marines and Sailors volunteered to support the Lake Yamanakako Ice Candle Festival on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024.
Volunteers opened milk cartons filled with ice pillars. They attempted to make the most out of the icy task by competing with each other and interacting with other local volunteers. As the unboxed blocks piled up, another volunteer group placed small candles in the hollowed center of the pillars, creating the ice candles of the festival.
Some volunteers were able to carry a plastic crate full of ice candles, weighing about 33-pounds, in each hand over the snowy ground.
Once the 5,000 candles were lit up, the event venue seemed to be enveloped in a mystical atmosphere.
After setting up the candles, the volunteers participated in the event by trying some food from local vendors and watching lanterns and fireworks launch into the sky.
